Background

The Chancel Singers, based in Tunbridge Wells, was formed in 1990 by John Francis. They have sung in Abbeys, Churches and Cathedrals throughout England. Click here for a complete list.

The singers have a varied repertoire which includes many of the famous service settings and anthems by 19th and 20th century composers but it is constantly being extended to encompass more elaborate settings for the communion, the responses and the evening canticles by composers such as Robert Parsons and Herbert Howells.

August 2004 marked the retirement of John Francis and the choir is now directed by Christopher Harris MA FRCO.

The Chancel Singers are available for Cathedral and Church Services, Recitals and Charity Concerts.

Rehearsals take place on Sunday evenings from 8 to 9.30 pm in The Church Centre, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells.

Members of the choir are singers with some training and experience who are familiar with Anglican Church services and are expected to spend time working on their music between rehearsals. To this end a music rehearsal schedule is given out in advance.

If you are interested in joining our friendly choir and would like to know more then please contact our Music Director,
